Police issue Silver Alert for 74-year-old Bristol woman

The Bristol Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for a missing Bristol woman.

According to a press release from the police department 74-year-old Janice Bronson was believed to be last seen driving a 2002 blue Kia Spectra with a Connecticut license plate number, “137GGT.” She was described as a 5-foot-5 tall white female weighing 185 pounds, the release said.

Motorcyclist dies after colliding with vehicle on Pine Street

A 49-year-old bicyclist died from life threatening injuries over the weekend after motor vehicle accident on Pine Street.

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, the bicyclist, identified as Alvin Colon of Bristol, was heading north across Pine Street from the Valero gas station last Saturday when he collided with the driver of a 2004 Honda Accord. The driver, 75-year-old Donald Martin of Bristol, who was traveling west on Pine Street at the time of the accident, was not hurt, the release said. Colon was sent to Bristol Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Krajewski at (860) 584-3033.

 

Bristol police launch holiday robbery patrol

Bristol police have started a special holiday patrol to address the issues of theft and robbery in the community.

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, the goal is to “prevent robberies and increase the rate of apprehension.” Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) will kick off on Nov. 25 and continue through the end of the year, the release said. With the holiday season in full swing, theft and robbery tend to increase in many communities, police said in the release. Officers have been assigned to RID and will provide proactive patrols in robbery prone areas, the release said. RID will focus on convenience stores, shopping malls and banks, the release said.

Police are reminded shoppers with the following tips to help keep them safe during the holidays.

  • Stay alert when shopping.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings, especially when walking to your car.
  • Keep cash and credit cards out of sight.
  • Be aware of strangers that approach you.
  • Do not leave valuables unattended in shopping carts or vehicles.
  • Park in well-lit areas.
  •  While using an ATM, choose a safe location.
  • Report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Motorcyclist dies after crash at Farmington Avenue intersection

A motorcyclist died on Sunday after a crash at the intersection of Farmington Avenue and King Street.

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, 34-year-old Corey Cuvelier of Bristol was riding a 2004 Kawasaki Volcan eastbound on Farmington Avenue, approaching the King Street intersection when 20-year-old Crystaly Acevedo of Southington collided with him, as she turned left onto King Street. Cuvelier, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, died from a serious head injury before Life Star could transport him to the hospital, the release said. Acevedo was not hurt, but was sent to an area hospital for an evaluation, the release said.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the crash is asked to call Officer Jones at (860) 584-3036.

State police report 496 accidents and 2 fatalities over Thanksgiving weekend

ct-state-policeConnecticut State Police were out in force during the Thanksgiving weekend with a sharp focus on safety. From Wednesday, Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 27, state police added additional troopers to patrol the roads and highways with a focus on drunken driving violations and aggressive drivers with DUI checkpoints and roving patrols.

Police received 9,380 calls for service with 421 motorists requiring road-side assistance. There were 496 accidents during the holiday weekend (down from 513 in 2015) with 56 injuries and two fatalities. The fatalities were a result of an accident on I-84 in Southbury.

During this period, police issued 1,007 speeding violations across the state and 450 seatbelt violations. Other hazardous moving violations, including following too closely, unsafe lane changes, cell phone usage, etc., totaled 2,991. During this same period, state police issued 56 arrests for driving under the influence of liquor or drug.

Police investigate drive-by shooting at Prospect Street intersection

Bristol police are investigating a drive-by shooting that took place last night at the intersection of Prospect Street and Munchausen Avenue.

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, the victim of the shooting sustained a grazing wound to the left side of his head, and was sent to Bristol Hospital for further treatment after receiving treatment at the scene. The victim told officers he was a passenger of a vehicle head northbound on Munchausen Avenue when several shots were fired from a vehicle traveling westbound on Prospect Street, the release said. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, the release said.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Bristol police at (860) 584-3011.

Police Explorers kick off toy and clothing drive on Monday

Bristol Police Explorers will hold the Stuff the Truck Toy and Clothing Drive this upcoming Monday (Dec. 5).

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, the event will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Walmart, located at 1400 Farmington Avenue, Bristol. Miss Connecticut’s Outstanding Teen, Samantha Anderson, will take part in the event, the release said.

All donated toys and clothing will support the city of Bristol’s Youth Services department, the release said.

Road closures expected for Children’s Holiday Parade

With the Children’s Holiday Parade scheduled for this Sunday, drivers traveling through downtown Bristol cal expect road closures on Main Street, High Street and Bellevue Avenue.

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, the detours will begin at 12:30 p.m. and end at about 3 p.m., and officers will be assigned to the parade route for traffic control.

Parking restrictions will be in effect at 11 a.m. for the following streets:

  • Both sides of Bellevue Avenue
  • Both sides of High Street between Main St and Elm St
  • Both sides of Main St between Riverside Ave and Summer St

Bristol men charged in connection with King Street stabbing

Bristol police arrested and charged the two suspects connected to the stabbing that happened on King Street this past October.

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, 22-year-old Christopher Capolupo of Bristol was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, conspiracy to commit murder, first degree assault, conspiracy to commit first degree assault, third degree assault and conspiracy to commit third degree assault. He was held on a $750,000 bond.

Police reported in the release that 22-year-old Edwin Velez of Bristol was charged with conspiracy to commit first degree assault, third degree assault and conspiracy to commit third degree assault. He was held on a $500,000 bond.

Additional arrests are expected for the stabbing of 30-year-old Elvin Berrios that happened on Oct. 30 in the area of 361 King Street, the release said.

No injuries reported in Carriage Road fire

No injuries resulted from a fire that broke out Christmas day at a home on Carriage Road.

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, the patrol division assisted the Bristol Fire Department in response to a fire at 71 Carriage Road. Although no injuries were reported, the house sustained significant damage as a result, the release said.

The fire was non suspicious, the release said.

Police issue Silver Alert for missing Bristol teen cancelled

Bristol police have canceled a Silver Alert for a missing teenager.

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, 13-year-old Priscilla Vongkeomany of Bristol went missing yesterday, and was last seen wearing black Adidas pants and a white “New York” hooded sweatshirt.

Police described the teen as a 5-foot-4 African American girl weighing 118 pounds.
