A police encounter with a group of men trespassing on Housing Authority property led to the arrest of a man wanted on arrest warrants in New York City and Puerto Rico, including drug-related and gang-related charges. Due to the nature of the charges, Puerto Rico authorities have agreed to extradite him.

Bristol police arrested Hector Luis Matos, 29,  who told officers he resided on Landry Street in Bristol. He was charged with two counts of fugitive from justice and held on a total bond of $400,000.

Police said that at about 6:20 p.m. on Monday,  officers  were patrolling the Davis Drive area, which is part of the Bristol Housing Authority. Police encountered three males seated on a guardrail toward the upper part of Davis Drive.

Police said that anyone that is not a resident or a guest of a resident at the BHA property  is subject to a trespassing arrest.

Further investigation by the officers discovered that one of the males, Matos, had outstanding arrest warrants in both New York City and Puerto Rico, said police. The charges from Puerto Rico entailed two warrants for felony distribution of marijuana while the warrant from New York was a felony charge for gang assault.

The Warrant Extradition Unit from Puerto Rico was contacted and an agent there stated they would extradite given the charges.
