Head-on crash leaves two children dead and four injured

A two-car head-on collision left two children dead and four others injured early Sunday morning in the area of Pinebrook Terrace.

According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, the driver of a 2014 Nissan Sentra was heading north on Middle Street when she crossed over the double yellow line and struck a 2002 Ford Windstar that was heading south on Middle Street. The Sentra had four occupants, including two children ages four and seven and their mother, who was the driver, the release said. The children were then pronounced dead at Bristol Hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash, and their mother was transported to a Hartford area hospital with serious injuries, the release said. The front seat passenger of the Sentra also was seriously injured and was transported by Life Star to a Hartford area hospital, the release said.

According to the release, the driver and front seat passenger of the Ford Windstar also were seriously injured. The driver was transported to a Hartford area hospital and the passenger was sent to a Waterbury area hospital. A third passenger may have also been in the vehicle, but fled on foot before officers arrived, and has not yet been located, the release said.

All of the victims suffered head, chest and leg injuries, the release said. At this time, no information about any of the drivers or passengers is being released, and the immediate families are in the process of informing extended family members.
