State Representative Frank Nicastro (D-Bristol) was honored by the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association Thursday for his strong support of public safety and law enforcement, reported a press release from the House Democrats.
The award to Nicastro says in part, “In grateful recognition for your efforts to enhance Law Enforcement in the State of Connecticut.”
The press release said Nicastro became the point person in the General Assembly with colleagues in taking strong reaction from a Judiciary Committee that included mandatory cameras with no funding and several other provisions which he advocated successfully to change. Through his efforts, said the release. $14 million was added to the budget to provide for municipal police department costs for any department which chooses to use cameras.
“I thank the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association for this honor,” Nicastro said, according to the press release. “It is critically important that we not only support our law enforcement with words, but that we support policies and programs that provide them with the tools they need to protect us and our families each and every day.”
Nicastro serves on the legislature’s Public Safety and Security Committee, which oversees law enforcement and related matters in the state.
The awards event was held the Police Chiefs Association meeting in Cromwell Thursday.
