A 20-year-old Bristol man was arrested and charged last Thursday after a serious hit and run at the intersection of Pine Street and Mitchell Street.
According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, Jesse Lopez struck two pedestrians, and fled the scene with his 2003 Chevy Trailblazer before officers arrived. Both pedestrians were brought to a Hartford area hospital, and were reported in stable condition, the release said.
A witness of the crash gave information about the suspect vehicle to police, and the information was broadcasted to area departments, the release said. Shortly after, the Plainville Police Department found the vehicle on East Main Street in Plainville, according to the release. After responding to Plainville, Bristol officers found Lopez, placed him under arrest, and transported him back to the Bristol Police Department, the release said. Lopez was charged with evading responsibility, two counts of failure to use care to avoid a pedestrian, operating without a license and interfering with police. He was held on a $5,000 surety bond and appeared in Bristol Superior Court last Friday.
The Traffic Division’s START unit is investigating the crash. Police are not releasing information about the pedestrians until family members are notified.
