The 2015 national Click It or Ticket (CIOT) seat belt enforcement mobilization kicked off today and runs through May 31.
According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, all law enforcement officers and highway advocates nationwide are teaming up to help save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt laws around the clock.
As Memorial Day weekend is here, the state’s law enforcement agencies intend to promote safe driving and enhance protection for all drivers, the release said. Officers will enforce the seat belt requirements and issue citations to those without a buckle on, the release said.
Police reminded the public in the release that all front seat passengers in a vehicle must wear safety belts. Only back seat passengers under 16 years of age are required to wear seat belts, the release said. If the driver is 16 or 17 years old, all passengers in the vehicle must wear safety belts, the release said.
