The Bristol Police Department made several arrests for revenue violations related to tobacco sales, tax stamps and the sale of individual cigarettes.
On Thursday, officers made an arrest at La Familia Duper Deli on Farmington Avenue for untaxed cigarette/tobacco and loose cigarette sales, said the Bristol Police Department in a press release. Police also made an arrest at Tropical Market on School Street after discovering untaxed tobacco, and another arrest at Shop & Save on Divinity Street for untaxed tobacco, the release said.
The Bristol Police Department promotes community policing as one of its main tenets in fighting crime in the city, the release said. This serves as a full-time, year-round commitment that stays fluid in addressing all types of crime, according to the release. The department made spot checks at a total of five convenience stores in Bristol, and only one store, Discount Tobacco, had no violations, the release said.
During those spot checks, revenue agents also seized various tobacco products, according to the release. Police also found loose cigarette sales at Bristol Brothers, but no arrest has been made at this time, the release said.
