Bristol police arrested and charged a man who tried breaking into Ross’s Auto Parts on Terryville Road Sunday.

With the assistance from the Plymouth Police Department, officers were alerted of an active burglar alarm at Ross’s Auto Parts where they secured the perimeter of the property, according to a press release. The canine officer and Police Canine Murphy entered the property and found the suspect, 54-year-old Juan Gonzalez, running from the building, police said in the release. The canine then found Gonzalez hiding under a bus at First Student Bus Co., according to the release.

The suspect, who had minor wounds in his lower left leg, was then transported to the Bristol Police Headquarters where he was treated for his injuries by Bristol EMS, the release said.

It appeared that Gonzalez entered Ross’s Auto Parts by crawling under the perimeter of the chain link fence, police said in the release. Once inside the property, Gonzalez used a three-foot flat metal to open the building’s doors. While trying to open the doors, officers and Canine Murphy confronted him, according to the release.

Gonzalez was arrested and charged with third degree criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools, criminal attempt to commit third degree burglary, second degree criminal mischief, and interfering with an officer. He was held on a $25,000 bond.
