A Waterbury man was arrested and charged this past Saturday after a reported stabbing at 115 Stearns Street.
According to a press release from the Bristol Police Department, Bristol police and Bristol Hospital emergency personnel found 80-year-old Gary McCarthy with multiple stab wounds on the front lawn of his Stearns Street home. He suffered wounds to his leg and upper torso, and received first aid from officers and emergency personnel, the release said. McCarthy was then sent to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford where he underwent surgery for treatment of his injuries, the release said. His current condition is uncertain at this time.
McCarthy and his family members identified the attacker as 20-year-old Eric Bowden of Waterbury, the release said. Bowden was near his parents’ Bristol home and was taken into custody without incident, the release said. Bowden was an acquaintance of a family member at 115 Stearns Street, but the motive for the attack is not clear at this time, the release said. Bowden was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first degree assault of an elderly person and home invasion. He was held on a $750,000 surety bond, with a court date scheduled on March 28.
