A Waterbury man was arrested Tuesday night on drug charges and on charges related to selling untaxed tobacco.
Bristol police reported that on Nov. 24, personnel from the state Department Of Revenue Service, along with the Bristol Police Narcotics Enforcement Team, responded to the Shop and Save Convenience Store located at 143 Divinity St., on a complaint of possible cigarette sales violations and narcotics sales from the establishment. During the inspection, police said, a search of the store was conducted and with the aid of a state police canine, a large quantity of heroin was discovered in an overhead oven hood.
Police said they found 600 bags of heroin with a street value of approximately $6,000 and 7.4 grams of powdered cocaine with a street value of approximately $700.
The owner of the store, Juan Ramirez-Rosario, 29, of Waterbury, was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of narcotics. He was held on a $250,000 bond pending his court appearance today.
Ramirez-Rosario was also charged by the tax enforcement agent with counterfeit tax stamp violation, sale of untaxed tobacco, sale of untaxed cigarettes, and sale of loose cigarettes. He was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond for those charges.
