The Bristol Water Department is advising customers to be cautious of two individuals posing as water company employees in an attempt to enter residential homes.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, a press release from the department explained, two male suspects claiming to be from the water department gained access to a Bristol residence, telling the resident they needed to check for water leaks. Bristol Water Department is working in coordination with the Bristol Police Department who are investigating the situation. No further details are available at this time.

The Bristol Water Department, in its news release, urged all residents, especially those who are home during the day, to be alert for imposters by following these tips:

Bristol Water Department employees do not knock on doors to check for leaks without a scheduled appointment and drive vehicles clearly marked with the Bristol Water Department logo.

The Bristol Water Department said in its news release it encourages customers to ask for identification from anyone who comes to their door. All Bristol Water Department employees have photo identification badges and will gladly display them upon request. The policy is “No Identification – No Entry.”

If someone comes to your door claiming to be from the water department and you do not have a previously scheduled appointment, the department said do not allow access to your home until you call the Bristol Water Department at (860)582-7431 or (860)583-6504 to verify their identity.

If you have any doubt about the individual’s identity or motives, or authenticity of their credentials, do not allow them entry into your home and call the police.
